Ron Toran

Director, Area HR Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

A few months into his new role as Director of Area HR Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, “it’s been an exciting time” for Ron Toran. It’s not just a new role for Ron. It’s also a new role at SYKES, which he says brings an added level of excitement because he gets to spearhead a groundbreaking effort here. What is something new you can expect to see from Ron? Employees will notice an emphasis placed on cultural recognition within SYKES. We are a global company, and under Ron’s direction, team members will have the opportunity to learn about other countries, traditions and what makes our employees from across the world unique.

What excites you most about your new position with DE&I?

There is tons of support from leadership and individuals around the organization that want to be a part of and support the work that we’re doing.

February is Black History Month. What does it mean to you?

Black History Month is a month dedicated to truly spotlight the contributions and accomplishments of black people. Not just within the U.S. but also globally.

Why is it important for SYKES employees to know more about it?

When I think about why it’s important to our employees at SYKES, it centers around the ability for individuals of other ethnic groups to really learn about the contributions of black people throughout history, as well as currently.

Which of the SYKES Truths do you most connect to?

I connect to all of them, but in recent days - especially within my role - I tend to connect more now to Be Current. I think the ability to continuously learn about one another is extremely important.

What’s something viewers would be surprised to learn about you?

I have cookies and milk every day at 2:30 pm. I’m not allowed to have that many, but nevertheless I take what I can get, and I’ll sneak a couple in at 2:30. If you’re ever on a meeting with me at that time, you can best believe that I’ve probably got some milk on the side and some cookies.

What’s your favorite snack food?

I’ve always loved ice cream. The best part of any cruise I’ve ever taken is all the free ice cream machines that are around the ship and being able to get ice cream whenever you want.
