Jamie Wilkerson

Team Leader

Since joining SYKES a little over two years ago as a consultant for one of our travel company accounts, Jamie Wilkerson is flying high at SYKES DeLand. Now serving as a team leader, he is a prime example of how you can Work, Learn and Grow at SYKES. Since most of the site has shifted to working at home due to COVID-19, Jamie has had to adapt to learn how to engage and motivate a team of agents virtually. But the change hasn’t phased him too much – he was recently named “Team Leader of the Quarter” based on his team’s low attrition and absenteeism, his high number of community and virtual contributions and the most peer nominations for bringing The SYKES Way and Our Truths to life.

What do you do with SYKES?

After starting as a travel consultant, I stepped into a Team Leader position. Shortly after, I took part in a chat pilot. With the help of everyone involved, the pilot was a major success. A few months ago, I transitioned again to assist with another pilot, and that’s where I am now.

What’s a typical day at SYKES like for you?

A lot of organization, planning and taking the time to help my agents as much as possible. No matter what you’re prepared for there will always be a monkey wrench in the plan, but I enjoy flexing to figure out ways to deal with different challenges that come up.

How has your work experience shifted because of COVID?

I’m typically a ‘go with the flow’ leader, but COVID has put me in a position to be more of an active leader in several different ways. I’ve become even more engaged with agents on the account and facilitated several different trainings, which I greatly enjoy.

What’s the best part about working with SYKES?

That I’m allowed to be myself as a professional. Other employers have certainly expected ‘cookie cutter’ employees, but with SYKES, I’m allowed to use my personality in positive ways and to make my leadership style and professional demeanor the best it can be.

What accomplishment are you most proud of at SYKES?

Playing a big role in the Chase chat Expedia program – I was allowed to be an authentic leader throughout the process and seeing its success now is so fulfilling.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I enjoy being active – working out, taking walks on the beach and being outside. I also enjoy all different forms of art like music, games and more traditional art. As a creative, I love dabbling in different art forms such as painting or woodburning – really anything that keeps my mind active.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

I would love to have telekinesis and read people’s minds! I’m more of an introvert, so it would help me better understand people so that I could help them.

What TV show are you currently binge watching?

I just finished all of Away on Netflix.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

I wanted to be a nurse or teacher – both noble careers that play to my strengths and passions of caring for and developing others.

Where do you hope to be in 5 years?

I always like to be growing and learning, and I think SYKES will continue to be a great place to do that. I would love to continue to grow into stronger leadership positions within the company, taking on new challenges and learning new and exciting things.
