SYKES Awarded the Ecological Blue Flag Award

SYKES Awarded the Ecological Blue Flag Award

SYKES Costa Rica has been awarded the Ecological Blue Flag Award in the Climate Change category by the Foundation for Environmental Education. The award, which is a part of the organization’s world-renowned Blue Flag program, is given to companies that work toward reducing their environmental footprint and positively affect our global ecosystem.

Though SYKES has won this award consistently since 2012, 2020 will mark the first time that SYKES has achieved a six-star rating across all headquarter locations.

SYKES Costa Rica began operations in 1995, becoming one of the first call centers to operate in the country. Since then, SYKES Costa Rica has grown to operate at five sites and to employ over 5,600 people. The Costa Rica team provides 24/7 customer service support to some of the world’s leading brands in technology, finance, communications, and retail.

Over the past two decades, SYKES Costa Rica has made tremendous efforts to support the company’s global initiatives toward social, economic, and environmental sustainability. The Ecological Blue Flag Award affirms the fantastic work that employees have put forth to support in the company’s mission to create a greener world.

SYKES’ environmental sustainability programs and initiatives in Costa Rica include:

  • The installation of solar panels at company sites in Costa Rica
  • A recycling program that encourages reduction of paper waste and the use of eco-friendly products
  • Ongoing commitments to maintain certifications for carbon neutrality, environmental management, and energy management

In addition to this recognition, SYKES Costa Rica has received numerous other awards for its contributions to environmental sustainability, including recognitions from the Chamber of Industry of Costa Rica.

SYKES Costa Rica also runs many programs that contribute to social and economic sustainability initiatives, including:

  • SYKES Women in Technology (SWIT), which connects female employees with opportunities to work on technical accounts
  • SYKES Academy, which provides English language education to Costa Rican citizens and connects graduates with working opportunities at SYKES
  • LEAP, or the Leadership Evaluation and Advancement Program, which helps employees earn leadership promotions
