Military Spouse Finds ‘Perfect Fit’ at SYKES Home

My husband has been in the Air Force for 12 years, and we’ve been lucky to have only moved twice over that period. While stationed in Abilene, Texas, I kept busy going to school and taking care of our new and growing family. It was great. Six years ago we moved to Warner Robbins, Ga.
I had graduated college by that time, and my kids were old enough to go to school. Everyone was off doing their own thing, and I got a little bored. I’m not the type to sit at home all day and do nothing. I’m a go-getter. I love interacting with people. I had earned my degree, and I knew I was a hard worker. I figured this would be a great time to launch my career.
I started looking for jobs and landed several interviews, but no one seemed willing to take a risk on someone who hadn’t worked in a decade. I finally snagged a job offer from an insurance company – but they wanted me to work the graveyard shift. I told them, no thanks.
My spirits sagged, but I was determined to find the right job. I wasn’t about to give up.
Then everything changed. I was on base one day when a friend directed my attention to a job listing: “SYKES Home: Work from home!” It sounded too good to be true, but I applied anyway. Three days later I got a call back that changed my life.
I’ve been with SYKES Home Powered by Alpine Access for over two years now, and it’s been wonderful. I’m able to be home with my kids whenever they need me. There’s no office politics. I’m able to focus on the actual work that needs to be done. In my role, I concentrate on assisting customers who call with difficult problems. It’s really rewarding to help people.
At SYKES Home, I was able to move up the ladder more quickly than I would have expected. I started as a customer care professional and now I’m a team leader. Every day is something different – a different goal, a different challenge to overcome. I love it.
So many people think working from home means working alone. I can tell you first-hand that that’s just not true. I work with a great group of people every day. We share tips, we tell jokes, we encourage and support each other. It’s a family feeling. I thoroughly enjoy the community of my SYKES Home work group and supervisors. We’re a real team.
I tell the other military spouses about the opportunities SYKES Home has to offer, and some of them have joined, too. Military spouses need jobs that are flexible enough to accommodate child care needs and take into account the unconventional schedules and transient nature of military life. That makes SYKES Home a perfect fit for people like us.
It’s still real work. Don’t get me wrong. But for people with patience, understanding and dedication – characteristics that describe a whole lot of military spouses – SYKES Home has so much to offer.
