QUEZON CITY, Philippines

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), the country’s biggest state university, has signed a new partnership agreement with SYKES last October 18. PUP has been a SYKES partner school for 3 consecutive years.

The SYKES Branding-Academe Team and the SYKES Sourcing Team representatives welcomed Dr. Herminia Manimtim, EVP and VP for Student Affairs and Services, Engr. Florinda Oquindo, Dir. for Alumni Relations and Career Development Office, and Dr. Edgardo Latoza, Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services to SYKES’ Gilmore office for the contract signing.

“PUP has always been one of our top partner universities. We believe in their projects and in the talents of their students and that’s why we want to continue partnering with them. They’ve contributed greatly to the country’s workforce and we also recognize the efforts of the faculty and the other members of the PUP community for making quality education more accessible to more people,” SYKES Regional Branding & Communications Director Cecille May Venancio said.

“The upcoming plans with PUP affirm our employer value proposition which is ‘work, learn and grow with SYKES.’ We are happy for being given the opportunity to help in shaping the future of our youth through academic partnerships,” Venancio added.

PUP-SYKES partnership blueprint: achievements and plan of action

In the past years, the PUP-SYKES partnership has produced 1000+ hires and 30,000+ applications from PUP. In addition to on-the-job trainings, scholarship grants and priority hirings, SYKES also donated personal computers and helped in the refurbishing of some of the school’s facilities.

Through this agreement, SYKES together with PUP, will launch projects that are anchored on SYKES’ mission to help people, one caring interaction at time. These projects are:

> SYKES Engage – educational tours of the SYKES sites to expose them to an actual workplace, and sponsorships for student-initiated projects and events

> SYKES Excel – on-the-job training program that offers students a real-world experience

> SYKES Academy – free English training for those who want to be fluent with the language

> SYKES Inspire – career talks and seminars by industry experts

> SYKES Start – mock interviews to help the students prepare for their future job applications

Raymond Ver Santos, Director for HR-Sourcing, said that SYKES will continue to work with the academe community to help students achieve their full potential.
